Boulder Colorado Hiking Trails, Lodging, and Restaurants

Boulder Flatirons, Colorado

Boulder Colorado is very much an outdoor oriented town, and is lucky enough to sit at the base of the foothills. Of course, this means plenty of hiking trails! Boulder is also lucky enough to have its own mountain backdrop which is known as the Flatirons. They are located at Chautauqua Park, where many hikes can be started.

If you're planning a Colorado hiking vacation, and don't necessarily want to limit yourself to one hiking area, then Boulder Colorado can be a good place to base yourself. There are many good hikes that start in and around Boulder, including Chautauqua Park.

Another option is to visit some of the Colorado State Parks. Two of them are within easy reach of Boulder and the closest one is Eldorado Canyon State Park. The other one is Golden Gate Canyon State Park and is a little further away but well worth the drive. My favorite time to go there is in the fall because of all the aspen trees.

You can also go to the Indian Peaks Wilderness which is a little further away. It's a 76,586 acre wilderness area which is near Rocky Mountain National Park's southern boundary. The Indian Peaks happens to be one of the most often visited wilderness areas in the United States, and with good reason. Try to hike there on weekdays and earlier in the mornings.

Then of course there's Rocky Mountain National Park which is also within easy reach of Boulder. If you're planning on doing lots of hiking in Colorado, then Rocky Mountain should definitely be on your list of places to go.

Anyway, those are the main places to hike in and around Boulder, Colorado. You'll need a place to stay while you're there, and at some point, I'll be adding a page about Boulder hotels. In the meantime, I recommend you use the AAA Colorado Tourbook. It's what I use and I've always had good luck with it.

You will probably want to eat out at least some of the time while you're in Boulder, right? So I've added a page on Boulder restaurants that we like and I hope you like them too.

And if you'd like to know what you can do around Boulder Colorado, (other than go hiking), try the above link. It has some great ideas for fun things to do there, other than going hiking.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip to Boulder, Colorado. It's a beautiful place and definitely a good area to go if you love to hike.
