Fancy Creek Falls

Fancy Creek Falls

Just a ribbon of a falls, but very long. Like a ribbon on silver. It's on the Missouri Lakes - Fancy Lake Loop Trail west of the highway between Minturn and Leadville.

Fancy Creek Falls

Thank you Warren for this information :-), and the picture of Fancy Creek Falls that you sent me...I didn't know it existed so I appreciate that you submitted it. And as you said in your email, I'm sure there's more water in the falls in the early summer, than there was now, this fall.

Anyway, I thought I would add directions to the trailhead for this hike for anyone else who would like to do it. Since I haven't done this hike, I'm using the directions from the book: "The Vail Hiker", which is written by Mary Ellen Gilliland.

Her directions say this: "drive 13 miles south on U.S. Highway 24 from I-70 Dowd Junction exit 171 to the Homestake Road, no. 703. Turn right and follow the Homestake Road past the Gold Park campground to County Road 704 at 8.5 miles. Turn right uphill on a rough road and drive west and southwest for 2.3 miles. Reach a T in the road at 10,200 feet and find the trailhead on the left. Park here".

She then says this to find the actual trail: "Walk 0.3 miles north from the trailhead parking area past Fancy Creek to the Fancy Lake-Fancy Pass 4WD road at left. Follow a trail that switchbacks uphill to cross Fancy Creek at 1 mile and reach Fancy Lake, 11,540 feet at 3 miles".

Continue the loop from the lake.
