Gunnison lodging rates are usually cheaper than what you'll find in Crested Butte, so if you'll be in this area, I recommend staying in Gunnison.
This is especially true during the winter since the winter months are the off season in Gunnison. Rates are higher during the summer but are still generally lower than what you'll find in Crested Butte.
So, where to stay in Gunnison? Well, we usually stay at the Econo Lodge, (formerly Super 8 Motel), and have been happy with it. Here's what I can tell you about it:
1) Econo Lodge: it's situated along the main highway through town, so it's easy to find. Our room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. It had all the things that you would normally expect to find in a chain motel and some rooms have refrigerators, and all rooms have microwave ovens. This is a pet friendly motel and the fee is $15.00 per stay with a limit of two pets per room. They also have free Wi-Fi which is always a good thing :-). The front desk person was very friendly and helpful and gave us several suggestions for where to eat dinner. So, we usually stay there when we go to Gunnison.
