Lower Cataract Falls
This was our first hike and waterfall experience with our family. It's an easy, child friendly, very busy hike to the falls. There is usually a bridge over the falls but a tree took it out this winter (2012). It is still worth the visit. An unofficial hard trail up is on the left just past the bridge. You can picnic, fish and canoe around the lake. Lots of birds and wildflowers. Use bug spray as there are lots of mosquitoes.
Karen's reply: what a bummer that the bridge was taken out by a tree this past winter. I was there last fall and the bridge was still intact then, so we were able to follow the trail all the way around the lake. By the "falls", I assume you mean the creek that comes at you from above the bridge. It does kind of look like a cascading waterfall. And speaking of waterfalls, I'm not sure if you noticed, but there is a waterfall high up on the mountain above the lake. I don't think it's very accessible though because the area where it is, is so steep. Still, it's possible to see it from the lake, and it's pretty to look at.
