We've had the chance to try out several Steamboat Springs restaurants, and so far, there are four that we recommend, and that we would go back to.
Of those four, we think that one of them is especially good, and we're not the only ones who think so, since the place is always busy!
Anyway, here are the four that we've liked so far:
1) Winona's: this is our very favorite Steamboat Springs restaurant, and they are located in downtown Steamboat on Lincoln Ave., which is the main highway through town. They are known for their cinnamon rolls, and with good reason. The cinnamon rolls are large and gooey, but really good! You'll have to go on a good hike afterwards to burn some of those calories you consumed :-).
Besides those wonderful cinnamon rolls, some of what you might see on the menu includes: omelettes, scramblers, eggs benedict, pancakes, salads, and many different types of sandwiches. They also have a bakery with lots of yummy things in it including muffins, scones, and cookies, among other things.
Winona's restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch, is a non smoking restaurant, and if you want, you can get orders "to go". We tried that once, and ordered a couple of sandwiches which were huge and delicious. Which reminds me, the place is very popular, so it's best to get there as early as you can.
Address: 617 Lincoln Ave., Steamboat Springs, Co. 80487
Hours: Monday-Saturday: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, (breakfast only), 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
2) Tugboat Grill and Pub: this is another Steamboat Springs restaurant that we like, and they are located in "Ski Time Square", on the mountain. They are known for their burgers but they also have plenty of other things to choose from.
Some of those other things you'll likely see on the menu, (other than the burgers), are: sandwiches, salads, chicken, steak, fish, ribs, and pasta.
The Tugboat restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, take-out is available, and they have a sun deck, which is great during the summer. The restaurant is noisy at night though, so keep that in mind if you were looking for a quiet place to have dinner.
Address: 1860 Mt. Werner Road, Steamboat Springs, Co. 80487
Hours: open 7 days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Pricing: moderate to more expensive
3) Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant: this is a Steamboat Springs restaurant that definitely has something unique about it-and that is that it has a rooftop patio. Get a table there if you can, then enjoy the mountain views all around you, as well as the happenings on nearby streets. You can find them on Lincoln Ave., the main road through town.
The menu features some of the typical things you'd find in a Mexican restaurant. Things like quesadillas, fajitas, (their specialty, and you can choose from steak, chicken, shrimp, or veggie fajitas), tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, and salads, among other things. So, there's plenty to choose from here.
The Rio Grande is open for lunch and dinner, take-out is available, and they can also do custom catering to go. The one thing we found there that needed some improvement was that the service was a little slow. But since the view was great, and the food was pretty good, we would eat there again, and see how things go.
Address: 628 Lincoln Ave., Steamboat Springs, Co. 80487
Hours: open 7 days a week, 11:00 a.m. to close.
4) Beau Jo's Mountain Bistro: this Steamboat Springs restaurant really hit the spot on the night we ate dinner there. We had returned to Steamboat from a long day of hiking and were hungry and tired. And on that night, Beau Jo's was offering "all you can eat pizza", which included soup, salad bar, drink, and ice cream, as well as pizza. That meant we could eat right away which was great on that night. Look for them on the corner of Lincoln Ave. and 7th St. in downtown Steamboat.
Other than the pizza, other things you might see on the menu include: oven baked sandwiches, salads, and pasta. The "system" here, is that you go in and walk to the register, choose your meal, pay for it, then sit at a table. I thought this was convenient in some ways, since it meant we could leave when we were finished, rather than having to wait for the check.
Anyway, Beau Jo's Mountain Bistro is open for lunch and dinner, and offers eat in, take-out, or delivery. And on week days, they offer a lunch buffet from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Address: 704 Lincoln Ave. Steamboat Springs, Co. 80487
Hours: open every day: Sunday-Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Anyway, these are the Steamboat Springs restaurants that we like so far. We will try new ones from time to time, and if we like them, I'll add them to this page. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the ones you see here. And, do try out Winona's!
